Day 163: May 7 - On the mend

We headed back to the doctor today to check in again on Katie's illness and get another booster shot of antibiotics. Luckily her temperature was down to 97.4 degree . My baby's already weighing in at a hefty 16lbs, 6oz. I'm just glad we know what's wrong and we can work towards getting her better. I can tell she's feeling better because she seemed very enthralled with everything her owls had to tell her while she was swinging.

Day 162: May 6 - How to NOT have a good day

When I woke up this morning, I had a snuggly little lump in my arms playing hookey. Of course, there were noisy releases from both ends simultaneously, but I tried to ignore that. I called in sick to work again, but as I was checking my calendar, I realized I had my six month post partum appointment scheduled at the office right next to work, not the one that was more convenient to home. Great! I tossed some clothes on me, left Katie in her jammies and bolted out the door. On my drive in, I called to see if I could fit her in for a pediatrician visit. She seemed in a little bit better spirits, but since I couldn't afford to take too much more time off of work, I wanted to get the approval from the doc that she was doing better.

Now if you've been following this blog at all, you'll know what a slacker I am and that I'm actually writing this post 170 days after the fact [and publishing it over a year later]. Despite that, I still can not look at the pictures and video from that day without getting upset and teary eyed. I was so strong through everything that happened in the doctor's office, and even for the few days following, but once Daddy got back home from his trip and I retold the story to him and then showed him the pictures, I broke down into a blubbering mess. Anyway, without further adieu...

I fully expected to hear from the doctor that it was just a daycare cold. Boy was I wrong. The appointment was two and a half hours of catheters, blood draws and shots to finally diagnose her with a UTI. It was HORRIBLE! I think the two of us are still traumatized. The poor girl would just get calmed down and then they'd come back in to do the next procedure. She got so upset towards the end that she threw up all over her clothes and the exam table, so she had to spend the rest of the time crumpled up sobbing in a paper gown. As a mother, you just ache when your baby aches. Dang it, I'm staring to tear up just writting this blog entry, so let me stop with this, my little angel is already up to 16lbs, 6oz and I love her to pieces!

Tell me this doesn't break your heart!!

Day 161: May 5 - Cinco de sadness

"Mommy, I not sure you realize how awful I feel" It's just so pitiful! She's laying in my arms whimpering. awwwww! With Daddy out of town, I had to take today off, which kinda bites since I'm hourly. She's still got a fever though, and I don't know why.

Would I be a horrible mother if I packed up my sick baby and ran five minutes down the road to get some Moe's Southwest for lunch? Before you judge, keep the following in mind....1. it IS Cinco de Mayo. Isn't everyone an honorary Mexican on this day? 2. Hello, it's Moe's! Should be 'nuff said. 3. I haven't eaten Moe's in like 3 weeks! That's almost a lifetime to be queso-free! 4. I haven't had much adult interaction today, so being assaulted with "Welcome to Moe's" would do me some good. 5. Did I mention, it's Moe's? I'd be willing to make it takeout if that would make me less of a horrible mother.

Katie took her first shower tonight, and she seemed to enjoy it, since she was kicking her little fat legs around. Afterwards we called Daddy and that just made everything so much better!

Day 160: May 4 - My little limp muffin

Is it possible to want to marry your stroller? I bought the pink P3 this weekend from Craigslist, and I reeeeeally am digging it. It doesn't make comments about my poochy tummy either, so that kinda puts it a notch above DH right now!

When I picked up Katie from daycare, she had an armpit fever of 101.4 and she wasn't chugging her joy juice. I can't even get a smile out of her!! She seemed in such a good mood in the morning, but she was flopped like a limp rag on my shoulder as we were leaving school. Poor little girl. I called the pediatrician, and they told me to make sure it doesnt go over 104, no wet diapers for eight hours or any visible pain. She's just laying there whimpering, and it just breaks my heart. Naturally Daddy left on a business trip today too.

Day 159: May 3 - Check out my new ride!

She is just so adorable when she sleeps. She loves laying on her side when she snoozes, and it just melts me whenever I see it. Even cuter that she couldn't make it to her bed to crash, she had to start her nap on her playmat.

When she woke up from her nap, we headed out to go pick up a stroller I bought from Craigslist. It's a $300 stroller that I got for $125, and it's in incredible condition. We then tested it out at Kohl's. Katie seemed to really dig it, especially since she can prop her feet up on the snack tray and look all cool. It's handy because the sunshade can move around, based on where the sun is at, and the back can recline back in case she wants to take a nap. Although it's not the $600 stroller I want, it'll do for now.

Day 158: May 2 - The cutest six month pictures you've ever seen!!!!

It was a crazy, crazy morning for me! The weather forecast was not great, and knowing we had an outdoor venue for today's photo shoot with lots of little ones, I was nervous to keep it at Duke Gardens. I made a last minute decision to switch it to Tobacco District in Durham, since it would allow us to do inside and outside shots. Just after I sent out the bat signal to everyone about the change, Laura, the photographer, called and said they had escorted her out. Apparently you have to get official clearance to photograph there, and they already had someone else signed up for the day. I had to do a mad scramble, while driving down the interstate, late as usual, to let everyone know that we were back on again at Duke.

The first couple was a little frazzled from the last minute switcheroos, but once things got underway, everything was fine. It ended up being a gorgeous day, and the only rain we saw was a few droplets in the afternoon. Naturally it was the session with our youngest participant, six month old Brayden.

Katie was cute as can be in her pink dress [thanks to my friends for voting on the best dress choice from yesterday]. The little stinker kept sticking her tounge out in almost every shot though. I was hoping to get some of her adorable smile, but she had other plans in mind.

After her photoshoot, she and Daddy walked around the gardens and checked things out. Apparently they wanted to get some self-portraits with the beautiful scenic background.

I also added a picture of my coworker Barb getting pictures taken of her "kids" Morgan and Jack. How many adults does it take to get a dog to smile for a picture? It appears three! LOL

Day 157: May 1 - A model is born

Katie's six month photo shoot is tomorrow, and we have been having total clothes crisis. I stopped by Target and Walmart on my way home from work, and just grabbed and grabbed dresses from the racks. Katie was such a good sport about trying them on. Of course, I think they're all precious, but I posted a poll for my friends online to pick the winning outfit. It's hard to tell, but I got so tired putting on dresses and taking them off while trying to keep her from sucking on them and drenching them with saliva that I eventually just started laying them on top of her.
